About Us.

The Northern Lights Steel Orchestra, which ordinarily comprises 60 members of all ages from around the globe, plays a wide variety of music from traditional calypsos to classic rock.

Mervyn T. Jordan established the NLSO in the fall of 1998 as a non-profit organization with the simple goal of promoting the steelpan art form. Having taken this sweet sounding Caribbean instrument beyond a novel form of tropical entertainment, the NLSO delivers an impressive fusion of musical styles for maximum enjoyment while adding a unique bit to the cultural life of the community. The NLSO thrives on being able to share their love of music and the joy it brings.

Have a Question?

Q: How did the NLSO Orchestra start?

A: It all started with our founder Mervyn Jordan’s passion for music and desire to share his love of the steel pan with his community. In 1998 he invited a handful of friends to join in this adventure, so the NLSO was born
